WISCONSIN DARTBALL
2010 STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS
THE 2010 STATE TOURNAMENT was held at the Kettle Moraine Ice Center in West Bend, Wisconsin, on
April 10-11, 2010. Another record field of 91 teams played in the 71st annual tournament.
There were a couple new things at this year's tournament:
1) A class C mens division was added. This was done because the class B field had grew so big in recent
years that teams had to play 4 sets, up to 12 games, on Saturday to make it to the final 4 on Sunday. This
year, 64 mens teams were divided in 32 B teams, and 32 C teams. Each group had to play a maximum of 3
sets on Saturday. The top 12 mens teams were in class A.
2) The other big change was to try a round robin format tournament for the class A mens teams. This was
done because of the gap in team averages between the top 12 teams and the rest of the field. Teams in
class A were divided into 2 groups of 6 teams. On Saturday teams played each team in their group 1 game,
for a total of 5 games. The top 4 teams, 2 from each group, made the final 4 on Sunday. The next 2 teams
from each group made it to the consolation final 4. The Sunday format was best 2 of 3, just like in the past.
CLASS A MENS: THE ROUND ROBIN FORMAT WAS USED FOR THE TOP 12 TEAMS IN THE STATE, DIVIDED EQUALLY INTO
TWO POOLS OF 6 TEAMS. THE FINAL 4 TEAMS WERE:
HICKORY INN (S. MILWAUKEE) THE 2009 CLASS A CHAMPIONS VS.
PAT'S OAK MANOR (S. MILWAUKEE) THE 2009 CLASS B CHAMPIONS, AND VERN'S CHEESE (CHILTON) VS.
GEIDEL ENTERPRISES (WEST BEND). HICKORY INN ADVANCED WITH 2 STRAIGHT WINS, WHILE GEIDEL NEEDED ALL 3
GAMES TO GET PAST VERN'S CHEESE. VERN'S HAD AVERAGED 29 RUNS PER GAME ON SATURDAY, BUT COULDN'T MATCH
THOSE NUMBERS ON SUNDAY. IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH, GEIDEL WON TWO STRAIGHT, WINNING THE FIRST GAME IN
THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH INNING 5-4. THEY WON THE 2ND GAME 13-8. THIS WAS THE FIRST EVER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR
GEIDEL, A LONG TIME CLASS A STATE TEAM. SEE THE PICTURES:
