| 2008-09 FINAL STANDINGS Class B was won by the Black Ash Gun Club, when they finished first in both halves. Class A had a different winner in each half. Moe's won the 1st half and Van's won the 2nd half. Since Moe's had a better overall record, they had choice of where the best of 7 play-off games were to start. They decided to take the first 3 games at their home tavern in Rio Creek. This strategy seemed to pay off, when they won the first 3 games: 12-11, 23-7 and 17-2. Leading hitters for Moe's in the first 3 games were: Jody Annoye (13-18), Travis Annoye (9-18), Ty Guilette (11-18), and Richard Piesler (10-16). Pat Benes added 11 RBI's and the first half champs had a commanding 3-0 series lead. The following week the remaining games were at Van's in Sturgeon Bay. Van's wasn't about to give up their long time reign easily, and the won the next 3 games: 14-11, 15-3, and 23-5. Suddenly the series was tied, and the entire season would be decided only by the 82nd game of the season. Moe's was the home team, and managed to hang on for a tense 9-7 win, as Van's had the tying runs on in the 9th with no out, only to miss 3 times on the triple. Leading hitters for the last 4 games for Moe's was Travis Annoye (10-19). Van's leading hitters were: Scott Peterson (17-24), Jay Stegmann (15-23 with 18 RBI's), Larry Uecker (14-23), and Tim Stegmann (12-22). |
