Welcome to the official Dartball site of the Wisconsin State Dartball Committee!
Leagues and all tournaments in Wisconsin shoot 20' from the board, and all darts
are "pitched" underhand.
WISCONSIN
DARTBALL
The official darts used in Wisconsin are Apex #2:
Dartball darts are about 7" long, with 3 feathers and a steel tip. The feathers
originally used were actual turkey feathers, but now are synthetic, and come
in many different colors.
Dartball is basically a
baseball game played with
darts. The player throwing
the darts is the "batter".
Each dart thrown is the
same as a pitch in
baseball. Where the dart
lands on the board
determines the outcome of
each pitch. The batter
continues to throw darts, or
bat, until they are safe or
out, just like in baseball.
The game can be played
with as many as 9 players
per side, though less can
play as well, each
representing a team.
Most teams try to hit the
single first, which is the
one in the middle of the
white, on the right side of
the board. All white is safe.
All orange is out. Green is
foul, grey is a strike. Like
baseball, three strikes and
the batter is out. Hitting the
foul is like fouling off the
pitch, and the at bat
continues. There is a DP
(double play), and a SH
(sacrifice). Hitting the
single puts a "runner" on
first. Hitting the triple would
score the runner from first.
The batter and all runners
advance the same number
of bases as the number hit.
In the center of the board is
a two base single (2BS).
This is a single for the
batter, but all base runners
advance two bases.
The board is placed on a
stand, 2' off the floor, and
on a slight angle. Each
section on an official dart
board has a wire
surrounding it, so there is
never a disagreement
about where the dart lands
on the board.

2008 69th Annual Wisconsin State Dartball Tournament Results!
This year's State Tournament was capably conducted by Dale "Boss" Zubke at Turner Hall and the
HAWC Center in Watertown, Wisconsin, on March 29 & 30, 2008. Another monster turnout of 74 teams
enjoyed a highly-successful Dartball summit. Boss deserves a nice rest after a month during which he
ran the Turner Hall 9-Man and 4-Man Tournaments plus the State. As Jay Stegman proclaimed, after it
was announced that beer would be served at the HAWC, "Praise the Boss"!
.
CLASS A - CHAMPIONSHIP: (1) Yahr Oil Company (West Bend) capped a tense final with (2) Collins
Sportsmen's Club (Collins) with come-from-behind rallies in the ninth inning of each game, winning
20-19 and 20-18. In the opener, Rich Yahr's triple tied the score; and son Mike's single was the winner.
Erv Fiedler and Jeff "Smokey" Langholff duplicated that feat in game #2 to squeeze out Yahr's first State
Championship since 1988. Pre-tournament favorites (3) MBC Sports (Mondovi) and (4) Hickory Inn
(South Milwaukee) ran out of luck in the semi-finals and had to settle for a one-game match for third
place.
.
Seven Yahr players became first-time State Champs - Bob Boeder, Erv Fiedler, Jeff "Smokey"
Langholff, Jim "Doc" Loppnow, Arlie Schilling, Randy "Frazier" Stauffer and Mike Yahr. The new Champs
were rounded out by Harry Roecker and Curt, Rich and Bob Yahr.
.
CLASS A - CONSOLATION: (1) Geidel's Enterprises (West Bend) (2) Ken's Tap (Muskego) (3) Bull Pen
Bar & Grill (Forestville) took a one-game match from (4) Eske Drywall (Watertown).
.
CLASS B - CHAMPIONSHIP: (1) Bunkelmann Builders (Kewaskum) beat (2) Tom's Bar & Grill
(Slinger),13-8 and 14-3. (3) Silk (Juneau) (4) The Loop (Little Chicago).
.
CLASS B - CONSOLATION: (1) Dave & Mary Ann's (Kenosha) (2) Frank's Power Plant (Milwaukee) (3)
Asche's Tap (Milwaukee) (4) Wyandot County (OHIO) Church League. Our friends from Ohio, Kevin and
Laura Parsell, returned this year and are looking forward to next year's tournament at Ho-Chunk Casino
in Wisconsin Dells.
.
WOMEN - CHAMPIONSHIP: What is left to be said about (1) L&R Trophy (Kewaskum)?! They have
now won the last SIX Women's titles. In spite of a spirited effort by (2) Van's Bar (Sturgeon Bay), L&R
did it again, 7-5, 0-5 and 6-5 (11 innings). The perennial Champs were pushed to the brink in game #3
but were saved by Jackie Burtard's winning triple in the bottom of the 11th inning. (3) Lebby's Frozen
Pizza "Pepperoni Heads" (Lebanon) (4) Emerald Hills Golf Course (Two Rivers).
.
WOMEN - CONSOLATION: (1) Photos By Leslie Faye (Plymouth) (2) Zastrow Heating & Cooling
(Watertown) (3) Bucket's Pub (Racine) and (3) Schult's Country Inn (Merrill) did not play for third place.
.
ONE-MAN SHOOT-OFF: (1) Chuck Spahn - Hickory Inn (South MIlwaukee) (2) Bob Leskovar - Hickory
Inn (South MIlwaukee) (3) Ron Ford - MBC Sports (Mondovi) (4) Terry Olson - MBC Sports (Mondovi).
Mr. Spahn and Mike Goetsch - MyRik (Manitowoc) tied for High-Qualifier at 15, and Chuck won a
play-off to take the trophy.
.
ROUND ROBIN SHOOT-OFF: Dennis LaPlant, the lefty stepper from Dave & Mary Ann's (Kenosha), hit
the 1b, 2b, 3b, 2bs and HR in order in only six darts to top the weekend-long competition. Four players
went around in eight darts. (2) Randy "Frazier" Stauffer - Yahr Oil Company (West Bend) won a play-off
from (3) Matt Binder - Dunn's Sporting Goods (West Allis). Tom Kossow - 4 Seasons/Bud Light
(Niagara) and Chuck Spahn - Hickory Inn (South Milwaukee) did not appear.
.
The Tournament had a decidedly West Bend - Kewaskum flavor to it, with teams from those two
next-door neighbors taking four of the six Championships.
.
The 70th Annual Wisconsin State Dartball Tournament will be held on March 28 & 29, 2009, at the
Ho-Chunk Casino in Wisconsin Dells.
